The Story of a Dead Rat

One morning I was awakened by the sound of crying kittens inside my house. I wondered where that sound came from since I cannot recall bringing a cat inside my house. Upon checking, I saw three little kittens cuddling among themselves in one corner of my porch. Their mother must have left them to search for food. Honestly, I am not a fan of cats. I had a bad history with cats when I was I child. Since then, I never saw myself owning one. That’s why that morning, I was figuring out how to transfer those kittens away from my house. However, seeing those cute little creatures made my heart melt and I just decided to keep them for a few weeks or until such time they are strong enough to leave my property.

One night, I went home late from work. As I approached our main door, I was greeted by a foul smell coming from the porch where the kittens lived. I checked it out and I saw a dead rat rested right beside the kittens. The mother cat must have collected and stored it for food. I was disgusted with what I saw and my hatred towards cats intensified further. I struggled not to vomit while I disposed the dead rat and I controlled myself  not to miss my temper towards the kittens. I can hear the devil inside me saying “I told you so; you should have disposed those kittens beforehand”. I cannot help but to be angry with the mother cat. After allowing them to stay in my porch despite my strong ill feelings towards their kind, this is what she will pay me – a dead rat!

However, I soon realized that the cat needed that rat for them to survive, that’s how they are created. It’s their nature.

That cat incident reminded me of Jesus Christ right after The Last Supper. He went to the Garden of Gethsemane where He sweat blood as He accepted and prepared for His death. For Christians, this is called “The Agony in the Garden”. Jesus gave up His life to save us from sins. Unfortunately, some of us no longer value that sacrifice. Instead, we repay Him by continuous sinning and unfaithful relationship with Him. We repay Him with a dead rat!

Despite our weakness toward sins, He still find room for forgiveness. Is it because He already accepted that humans are sinners by nature? The answer is NO. He continuously forgives us, because He knows that we can still change.

Let’s not be like a cat that brings dead rat in somebody else’s porch.  We should honor and respect the house of the person who provided us free shelter by not bring unnecessary trash to their house. Doing so is very disrespectful. Similar to the sacrifice made by Jesus Christ wherein He gave up His life to save us from sins. Let’s not repay Jesus with a dead rat, instead we should follow His words and we should love Him with all our heart.

Dad, you are the best father ever

When I was young you taught me how to read and rhyme, And showed me laughter under the smiling sunshine. I remember that day when I stumbled with pain But you carried me in you arms and the pain was gone. You taught me the meaning of respect, to other beings and to thyself You modeled these traits not only in thy words but by actions on oneself You taught me responsibility to thy spouse and to our dynasty You modeled these through thy affection to my mother and members of our family The greatest kings have conquered the strongest nation But believe me; no king is greater than your affection. As you leave this world we know But the love you’ve showed in my heart entombed Today I may be sad because you said goodbye For the angels in heaven took your soul up in the sky If mothers are the best, fathers are the greatest. Thank you for your fatherly love, it was the best. . Image Source: Wikipedia

Independence when there is no freedom

The Philippines is celebrating today its 122nd  Independence day.  Today we remember how our forefathers claimed their freedom from the Spaniards who enslaved them for almost 333 years. Thanks to our national hero Jose Rizal, who sparked the hearts of the Filipinos through his provoking novels. This eventually inspired a revolution which then gave birth to our first republic in 1889.  Today, due to the Covid 19 pandemic, we are locked at our homes and we have no freedom to move. As a result, we are deprived to work and earn a living. We are deprived to travel, to gather, and to celebrate. Our lives have so many restrictions. This was the same experience of our forefathers when their freedom was taken away from them by the Spaniards. Good thing this Covid 19 is only temporary. Once the vaccine is commercially available, our lives will soon return to normal and our freedom will be restored. Imagine if this quarantine is permanent, people will became restless, agitated and pr...
