Predicting the future. Is it a gift?

How I wish I have the gift of Nostradamus so that I can predict the future.  I want to know the future so that I can prepare myself and my loved ones in the uncertainties of this world, Like this Covid19 pandemic for instance, If I knew this would happen, I would have saved enough money, stocked more groceries, and bought all the medical supplies to survived me for a year.  Looking back at my life, there were so many failures and pains that I've been through, I wished I would have prevented it. If I knew I will be involved in a vehicle accident when I was six, I would have never left the house. If I knew that I will be involved in a painful relationship, I would have taken a different path. And If I knew that it was the last day of my dad on this earth, I would have spent more time with him before his last breath. If I knew the future, there will be no more what ifs.   However, if I knew what will happen in the future, what will be my present life wil...

Convenience Mentality: Its Impact on Our Material and Spiritual Lives

Life can be very stressful; hence, we tend to get hooked on the “quick and easy” tactics to almost everything we can think of.    Image Source Because of our fast-paced lifestyle, we hardly eat breakfast not even a bowl of cereal or a slice of toast. It is not, therefore, a wonder that two-thirds of the American population eat “breakfast bars”. These on-the-go meals are made from cereals, oatmeal, and dried fruits. Just unwrap the bar and eat it on your way to work or school. It may not be the most nourishing meal, but it’s convenient, and that seems to be what people desire most nowadays – convenience. Our world is full of obligations – to our family, friends, community, workplace, environment, and so forth. Life can be very stressful; hence, we tend to get hooked on the “quick and easy” tactics to almost everything we can think of. We look for and purchase products that are accessible, versatile, multipurpose, and user-friendly. We prefer things that can be...

How to forgive someone who hurt us

Image Source Forgiving the person that hurt you isn't easy especially if that person is close to you. In my previous post entitled How to Get Over a Betrayal I mentioned that we tend to seek revenge every time somebody we trusted hurt us or betrayed us. Based on my personal experience, the first emotion that we will feel after being hurt is anger and eventually that anger will turn into bitterness and bitterness will turn into hatred and this hatred will eat us alive from the inside out.  Forgiving the people that have caused severe anguish in your life is not easy but forgiving these people is essential in releasing the pain that's been holding you prison and preventing you from enjoying your life's blessings. When we hold on to our anger towards the person who have wronged us, it us who will suffer the most and not the party that we hate. That pain, that bitterness, and that anger will continue to linger inside us unless we release that negative emotions from ou...

To care or not to care

Image Source : Wikipedia Sometimes we also get tired of helping and caring for others especially if we do not get something out of it. I am not saying that we should expect some reward every time we help other people.  Speaking for myself, the art of giving means focusing on the needs of others before considering our own needs. But I don't believe in giving everything and not leaving something for ourselves. In fact, even before we consider giving part of ourselves to others, we must first fulfill our own needs. I find it difficult for someone to feed the hungry if that person is also starving to death. Feed yourself first. How can you help others if you can not even help yourself. My mother used to tell me that giving is a form of sacrifice. According to her, when you give something to others, make sure that what you are giving them (be it a tangible or an intangible matter) is not your extras or something that you can do without. Instead, give something that is valuabl...

The Price of Freedom

Many heroes fought for it. They shed blood to protect it. They sacrificed their own lives to attain it. In exchange for independence and freedom, these brave men and women gave their last breath so all of us who are living now can enjoy it. Freedom from Social Norms For most of us, we can already say that we live in an independent and freedom loving country. However, some aspects of our culture still restrict us to be different – to be free. For most of us, we choose to chain ourselves from the norms of society. If we go against it, we will risk ourselves from being tagged as either rebellious or outcast.  But to those who survived, probably bruised from the experience, have taught them how to be brave like our national heroes. If you are willing to take the risk of breaking the norms of society, one must be willing to go blind so that you will not see the harshness of the punishments for your deviancy. Also, one must be willing to go deaf so one will n...
